Joint Commission Resources has developed a new:
Patient
Safety Web Page.
Each month they will focus on a specific topic
related to patient safety.They will also provide access to tools and
resources to help organizations
focus on patient safety and implement process improvement programs.
- Improving
Patient Safety - A Free Online Education Session
Join Dr. Peter Pronovost, who has written more than 100 articles
and
chapters in the fields of patient safety, ICU care, quality health care and
evidence-based medicine, for an in-depth educational session on safety in
the ICU. In this session, "Improving
Patient Safety: From Rhetoric to
Reality," Dr. Pronovost will address the need to improve care in
the ICU.
You will gain practical tools to reduce or eliminate preventable morbidity
and mortality, and the costs associated with ICU care.
This session has been developed as a resource for senior hospital executives
through an unrestricted educational grant from Eli Lilly & Company. There
is
no cost to access this session on the Hospitals & Health Networks Web
site.
- Measuring,
Monitoring & Preventing Medical Harm from a Systems Perspective
Eric Larson, MD
In April, 2002 Dr. Larson described efforts at UWMC to deal
with patient safety issues.

The Leapfrog Group works with medical experts throughout the U.S. to identify
problems and propose solutions that it believes will improve hospital systems
that could break down and harm patients. Their website provides information
about the problem of patient safety, how to set standards and a description
of Leapfrog's Approach to patient safety.
- ECRI
ECRI is an independent nonprofit health services research agency. Their mission
is to improve the safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness of healthcare.
ECRI's focus is healthcare technology, healthcare risk and quality management,
and healthcare environmental management. Their website provides a variety
of products/services/ education/conferences and information for patients
and professionals alike.
- ISMP
The Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) is is a nonprofit organization
that works closely with healthcare practitioners and institutions, regulatory
agencies, professional organizations and the pharmaceutical industry
to provide education about adverse drug events and their prevention.
On their web page, you will find medication safety alerts, information
about error reporting and Medication safety.

Here you will find a web site devoted to providing information on medication
errors and adverse drug events in hospitals. The site.com is intended
as a useful link to experts in the fields of medication error and adverse
drug event prevention and continuous quality improvement. With the help

- QuiC
The Quality Interagency Coordination Task Force (QuIC) was established in
1998 in accordance with a Presidential directive. The purpose of the
QuIC is to ensure that all Federal agencies involved in purchasing, providing,
studying, or regulating health care services are working
in a coordinated manner toward the common goal of improving quality care.

The mission of the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine is
